Havelock North artist Gillian Receveur specialises in colour pencil drawings of botanical specimens to achieve accuracy and precision.
In 2014 Gillian applied to the Society of Botanical Artists in the United Kingdom to study and after three years of intensive study she graduated from The Art Worker’s Guild Hall, Queen’s Square, London in April 2017.
She uses mainly Faber Castelle pencils, together with Caran d’Ache and Prismacolour. Faber Castelle are oiled based that hold a point well, an essential requirement for fine detailed work. Art pieces are produced on Fabriano Classico 5 a 50% hot press cotton paper which is very smooth.
Gillian’s work was published in New Zealand Artist’s magazine, The Garden Journal, “Botanical Painting” by Margaret Stevens. Her work was accepted for the World Wide Botanical Exhibition in 2018. She exhibits within New Zealand, receiving commissions for her work and is a member of the Botanical Art Society of New Zealand.
