As a Primary School teacher, I have taught art at all levels, always
encouraging students to express themselves in ways that reflect their
cultural identity and drawing attention to the colours and patterns in
nature and their environment.
Over recent years I have been invited to various schools throughout
Hawke’s Bay to take workshops with students, based on my koru
artworks.
In recent years, I have embarked on my own art journey and my
choice of medium is watercolour which I find both challenging and
rewarding. I sometimes make use of inks, pastels, and pencils in my
artworks. I am particularly interested and excited by creating texture
in my paintings and enjoy experimenting in this area.
I am self-taught and have had no formal art training.
My love of the New Zealand landscape and an awareness of the
fragility of our environment, together with an interest in
photography, provide me with a rich source of ideas and inspiration
for my paintings.
My paintings have mainly been exhibited in the Hawke’s Bay area.
I’ve had artworks selected for the National Art Exhibition, which is
held annually in Napier, the Hawkes Bay Review and I have had
exhibitions at several local galleries over recent years.
In 2015, an exhibition of my paintings was held at the Wallace Gallery
in Morrinsville.
I was invited to design a banner which was printed to hang in
Napier’s CBD and one of my paintings was selected to grace the cover
of the Hawke’s Bay telephone directory several years ago.
